Re: rear differential 700 1983

Jim,

This is a new product that I am not familiar with. I can tell you that every Powertrax product I have used has been of excellent quality and workmanship. A Mustang 5.0 has a rear dif equipped with an 8.8 inch ring gear and a 28 spline 1.28 inch axle shaft. In comparison, the Dana 30 has a 7.25 inch ring gear. It also has 27 spline 1.28 inch axle shafts. You will need to verify the Volvo version of the 30 consists of the same. I would tend to think it would. However I have never taken a Volvo version apart. With some care a 30 should hold up pretty well behind a 5.0. One thing to note about a Powertrax is it uses your stock differential case. The spider gears are all that's replaced. That means your LSD will only be as strong as a stock case. If you should decide on the new Powertrax LDS, be sure and have the case checked for cracks. Make sure you replace the differential cross pin. And finally inspect and replace, if necesary, the side thrust washers. If this new product is a true limited slip, go for it. You can save quite a bit by installing it yourself. Good luck! I'd like to know how it turns out. A v-8 745 will be my next project.
