Adding a Related Question 140-160 71

I've often wondered if it wasn't possible to pull the pitman arm off, pull the steering wheel off, then turn the shaft a ways to where the badly worn section is now over to one side or the other (where you would only encounter it while maneuvering in a parking lot, etc.). Is that possible?
