Jim: The fixed voltage regulator is an SEV, and not more than a couple of years old. The adjustable one is an after market generic unit. With either I get the same situation; voltage drops as load increases.

The only other thing I can think of is resistance in the wire between the alternator and battery but I think thats unlikely because connections are clean and tight. I guess I could undo the diodes and test them one at a time with an ohm meter, or just go for it and get a Bosch alternator. Any thoughts on preferable way to proceed.
