The 164 suspension is the same type as the 140 (upper/lower control arms in front, live axle in rear.) The 164 has stiffer front springs, to compensate for the heavier engine, and the rear springs are the same as the 145 wagon. They used stiffer rear springs instead of a rear anti-roll bar to control body lean.

The 240 uses a totally different MacPherson strut suspension in front, and a live axle in the rear that hardly differs from the 140.
