Shipping Mounted Tires and Wheels? ALL

I'm going to buy a set of rims that have tires mounted on them.

I know UPS will ship these (but they won't insure them).

Is this a safe and effective way to ship (safe for the rims, and I guess for the tires) or would you ask the seller to demount and just box and ship the rims?
