Ron --
Had exactly the same thing happen to my '82 245. I hammered the cam-shaped pulley back on the shaft and repositioned the cables. As I recall, it was easier to do ( I didn't say easy) with the wiper arm removed, and with the linkage uncliped from the motor arm.
I had a helper (wife) hold a heavy weight against the outer end of the shaft as I pounded the pulley back on the splined shaft. I also used some Locktite.
Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly how I repositioned the cablesas I recall, it's a bitch. Certain engineering expressions helped. But also as I recall, it was easier to do with the cam 'n assembly rotated to one extreme end.
You might also find it helpful to drop the felt kickpad and work from underneath.
You might also benefit from examining another 240 to understand the configuration of cables 'n linkages.
