Literally 20 years ago I installed a Sears or JC Whitney aftermarket cruise control on a Datsun B210, cost about $125 and worked fine.

Looks a little tacky...the cruise switch has to be cable tied to the turn signal stalk or velcroed to the dash (hot glue if I did it today...) but the electronics are easy and the only touchy thing was to glue two little magnets onto the drive shaft (it was FWD so I had to pick one...it worked) of choice such that a bracket with the pickup would get within a 1/2" or less of the magnets.
