Re: ENGINE OIL LEAK 700 1991

This can be extremely serious if the leak is of such a magnitude that the

engine gets seriously low on oil.

Hard to tell from your message, but I would check immediately:

1) oils seals (crank, cam) at front of engine. These often leak due to

abnormal pressure inside the crankcase - this is often the result of

clogged/blocked flame trap and/or associated plumbing. See FAQ for

more.

2) leakage at the "plug" at the rear of the cylinder head. I've read

of cases where this plug gets "blown" out (or falls out) and the

resulting oil hemmorhage is like monsoon season. You may or may not have this, depending on where your distributor is located...

Don Foster has written about this and designed a "retaining strap".

Check FAQ and archives.

3) Other common leak sites (although usually of the "seepage" variety)

are the valve cover gasket and the gasket under the oil-fill cap.

In summary, you first must find out "where" your leak is.

Then, find out "why". This will lead to "the fix".

Meantime, park in the street so Mom doesn't go ballistic over oil stains

check your oil often and top off until leak is fixed.
