I'll be very interested in any help on this question from the group. My daughter's '84 240 does the same thing after sitting all night. After the morning wake up call the tranny works just fine. Your idea about a sticking check valve makes sense. When I drained the tranny oil, I got nearly 5 quarts which was much more than I thought would drain out. I put in new Dexron III but there was no improvement in the delayed action problem.
