Today there is no risk except for doing this in sludgy engine. There is a faint risk that oil seals may leak but this would be for an old seal that is hard nad is only sealing due to a ridge of oil varnish built up on the surface it seals. The synthetic will likely dissolve the varnish and the seal will leak then. A seal in this condition would have leaked before long with convnetional oil also.
