Age, mileage and road conditions all affect bushing life. If you drive in a sandy, salty area with poor road surfaces, your bushings will wear very quickly. In Boston, bushing replacement is an annuity for Volvo shops. Your car probably needs only the strut rod conical bushings, which are easy to replace.

I've yet to try poly bushings, so my experience is only with the OEM rubber versions.
