"FWD is superior in the snow. NOT! A 240 with snow tires is an absolute tank."

not to be argumentative .....but that was what i would have expected from a 240, now that i own one i have been quite displeased with its winter weather traction. i had previously owned a 79 peugeot 504 diesel (small but heavy RWD french-built car not too many know of -including most every parts house in the country which is why it is no longer with us) and that went through snow better than any other car i had driven (including many honda products), but the 1990 240 that replaced it doesn't seem very sure-footed in wet weather and is scary in snow (here in the u.p. of michigan we have already had our first storm of year, 15 inches in two days early last month) i couldn't even get it out of my driveway. i know tires do make a difference and set of snows would undoubtably be appropriate for this region (annual snowfall average is something like 275 inches), but i am not convinced that this vehicle is going to the job done for me( i never ran snows on the 504 ) unless i can make some drastic improvements i think i'll be shopping for a four wheel drive replacement, any other suggestions?
