I have never seen good LED "retrofit" kits. They are usually impossible to focus. If you increase the amount of light coming out of the bulb, it is mostly where you don't need it - scattered all over the place including into oncoming traffic's eyes.

It's really easy to put a "retrofit" into a housing, but it's not possible to make the beam pattern any good. The best option is the first "upgrade" level lights like the Philips Xtravision or Wagner Britelight bulbs.
