Just curious here... did you ever apply the ohmmeter tests to the old 007 AMM? The over-fueled symptom you describe is consistent with a broken platinum wire. I have reason to believe this defect is much rarer than the techs imagined when they wrote up the test procedure in the factory manuals, and when it occurs, is not as easy to verify using the cheap DMMs sold today.
Could be other reasons your new AMM fixed it.
Edit: Never mind. I just found your response to Trev where you included the fact you had done the resistance check I ask about. :-)
