Blown #7 fuse in 91 240 Sedan 200 1991

Friends at the Brickboard:
Several months ago I was having taillight malfunction with my 1991 240 sedan. The initial problem was with the passenger side rear assembly. A mechanic friend of mine hard-wired both rear taillight assemblies about 8 weeks ago, and things have been doing just fine. But this evening while I was driving home from work, I got a taillight bulb warning on the dash and sure enough the brake lights were out. I checked the fuse and the #7 - 8 amp fuse was blown, and when I replace it, it blows immediately when I hit the brake pedal. The passenger side rear turn signal is also working poorly (meaning that it is blinking slightly, but the bulb warning light on the dash is blinking, too. Is it possible that that's where there's a short? Auto electrical is not my strong suit, so I'll appreciate any feedback any of you more knowledgeable people can provide. Thanks in advance!
