Anybody else noticing that the number of 240, 740 and 940 volvos on the road seems to have dropped off precipitously? Or do you think I might be imagining things?
It just seems to me that, where it used to be common to see old 240s, etc. on the road, now it's rare enough that when I see one it's actually a noteworthy event.
I'm attributing this phenomenon (real or imagined) to the current "cost to repair" vs. "market value of the car" imbalance. Maybe we are reaching the point where too many owners are deciding that "it's just not worth it" anymore, and the cars are being retired.
Indeed, when I had my car in for some maintenance last year my mechanic pointed to a vacant lot adjacent to his shop filled with volvos that the owners had abandoned, rather than follow through on the required repairs. In some cases he has the title, in other cases he doesn't, so every six months or so he has them impounded as "abandoned".
So, what do you all think?
