Onkel Udo II wrote "That tranny originally had no OD gear hanging off the back and was sold that way ..." just so's you know -- the OD unit (planetary gear set) on the automatic is located at the front. Everyone else has addressed the non-issue of driving in 3rd -- and I'd like to point out that the earlier non-OD cars had a lower rear axle ratio (3.91 instead of 3.73) to boot. -- Dave
