I had a similar problem and ditto, the wire had fatigued and broken at the pass-through point in the door-to-A pillar which I discovered by doing a continuity check. I removed the harness and crimped in a replacement wire, made a little tougher due to the tight shrink wrap around the entire bundle. Make sure you secure any replacement with tape or added shrink wrap.
