Just a pre-pump. I replaced the under-car main pump and filter last week. New cradle bushings, too, with new banjo bolts, crush rings and the funny host that connects the two parts to one another. New is nice!
The pre-pump I received from IPD is nearly twice as long as that short guy clipped to the side of my sending unit. The replacement sending unit had the same shorty pre-pump. The new one is Sweden-made (possibly a local supplier to Volvo now, but not the maker of the original pump, I am guessing). All the connections are exact matches, but the body of the pump is just a good bit longer.
I am worried that it is not the correct one, but IPD assures me that this is the current replacement unless I buy Genuine Volvo.
I have a plastic tank, and the much lighter spring rate on my sender arm seems like a good match. Since it was working just fine before (the gauge reading) I am assuming that the yellow, plastic sender arm and float in my unit is fine. I am a bit worried that the much heavier spring rate of the new one will damage something. It takes two hand and a good deal of pressure to collapse it the 5 or so millimeters whereas my original one collapses with two finger pressure.
Sort of afraid of installing the much stronger unit into my plastic tank. I can just see a crack developing in the bottom or around the neck where the cap is installed due to constant pressure from the sender arm. It is stout. You can hear me grunt while collapsing it on the video.
