If you watched the video, the replacement unit takes two hands to compress. In Art's FAQ writeup he (and several others) suggests that you run string around the pump area to compress it as you are reinstalling the unit and to pull it after everything lines up. I can do this with the original one as it compresses with just one finger. The replacement one is quite stiff. It is fully extended, but again, too stiff to compress with string as is recommended in the FAQ.
Should I attempt to remove the band clamps and swap the original sender to the new cap/wiring harness? This would net me a good harness and cap with what appears to be the better of the two plastic sender arms.
