Dropping sunvisor 900 1992

Dear volvo426,

Hope you're well. I'd suggest replacing the visor, which indeed is non-repairable. If you don't use the visor at all, the magnet solution could work. It will keep the visor out of the way. I simply replace failed visors.

If you want to use the visor, e.g., while driving, pulling-down the visor with one hand will pretty quickly cause failure of the headliner's substrate, which is a light-duty (not-very-strong) fiberboard. That is, with only one hand, it will be hard to support the headliner, while pulling down on the visor, to break the contact between the magnets. Further, constant hand contact with the headliner will soon make it dirty (which may, or may not, matter).

A headliner replacement is not easy, even in a station wagon: in a sedan it is much harder, because the headliner has to be removed and inserted through a doorway, rather than a wagon's much-wider hatch opening.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
