s90 engine running rough S90-V90

After long winter eventually had the opportunity to get back to the car. Took it to mechanic, since i don't have a car bay, and he diagnosed the bad starter. He also agreed to me bringing my own part since i didn't feel comfortable with the brands he offered.

So i went for a Bosch SR0436X, however to my surprise he said he pulled out a different core which is an inch and a half smaller and according to its serial number 0-001-115-002 should belong to the Volvo S80 model. Now he says he is unable to put my Bosch in. I double checked everything but the core he gave me does look exactly like this http://www.motorcityreman.com/booe049.html and is different to SR0436X not only in size but shape.

I have a full service record for the car and it doesn't read starter change, and also the car should be completely stock. So now i think how it may require part other than the OEM?
