My wife'e 93 940 has a huge rust spot in the corner of the drivers door. I was able to find a super clean door from a 740... exact same paint code. Now I'm just planning the swap.
*Wiring* - it appears the donor door has all the proper wiring so I'll just need to swap over the driver's window control unit which includes the power mirror controls. (not present in donor) The loom that contains the wiring as it passes from the door to the frame is split. Can anyone recommend some self-sealing tape that will create a strong watertight seal?
*Lock core* - I did some recon on this last night and again seems pretty straight forward.
-Unbolt the plastic window track to gain access to the lock core.
-Remove Two torx screws that secure a large stamped retainer.
-Carefully pop out the linkage and the core should come out.
-Is there a gasket that fits between the outer door panel and the lock core to prevent moisture migration?
*Transfer side view mirror* - my only question here is how safely remove the triangular trim piece that covers the mirror attachment bolts. Sometimes you only get one chance on these things before they crack and break.
*Mounting and alignment*
This is what I am most concerned about.
Are there any tips here from those who have experience? the donor door did not come with hinges so I'll be using the existing.
Should I expect it to bolt right in? I don't see an jack screws, should I get it snug and then persuade it into position with a rubber mallet? Will I need shim stock if the angle of the door is not correct? ie one of the hinges needs to be spaced away from the door frame a bit.
I'll post before and after pics.
Thanks all!
Matt
