Distributor question 140-160

I am hoping to replace the distributor on my 71 142E with an EDIS system.

I know the oil pump runs off the distributor shaft.

My question is, can I remove the distributor and seal off the opening without affecting the oil pump function while running the motor.

The distributor is a NOS for a 73 with less than a grand on it.

Thanks folks for any help on this unusual question.
