Dear Brickboarders,
I hope someone can help. Over the New Year's weekend, I overhauled the original (yes, original) front suspension on my beloved '91 740. I replaced everything except the springs and the strut housings. I mean everything, all parts in the strut assemblies including the pricey top mounts, all bushings (even the control arm bushings which were a bear to push out and in), and ball joints. All factory Volvo parts. As required, I lowered the car before fully tightening the control arm and control arm stay bolts.
At the end of February, two months after the job, the suspension started squeaking...it is coming from the top on both sides, and very annoying. Sounds like I have a mouse in the dash. My current theory is that I installed the bump stops upside down. The bump stop is loose in the rubber spacer (spring seat) and can wiggle around. Should it fit snugly in the rubber spacer? If so, I did install the bump stops upside down. So, my question is, which end is up on these factory Volvo bump stops?
Thank you in advance,
Jim
