Anyone here from Germany ?

First of all, I dislike deceit - period. I feel that I have a human and legal right to know the truth about the country of origin of goods I purchase.

I am not concerned about globalization. I am unwilling to buy products from certain countries now, because of past experiences, but not for any other reason. I am well aware of what has failed me and what has not. I think there is certain logic, that companies that have made certain high quality items for decades in the past, will continue to produce them in the future, for many reasons, but it didn't happen overnight. You just cant drop everything, start from scratch in a foreign country, with newer, older or different equipment, build a factory overnight, train new people that speak a different language, and expect that your product will not suffer . There are too many variables that produced the quality item to begin with, that is not always easy to duplicate. Something always suffers as a result. These companies know it. This is just about making more money, nothing else.

I dislike any tools/products that are poorly designed or of a poor quality. They can be made anywhere. In the past I have found that highest percentage of quality tools come from the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. As for tools I've had more problem products from China than anywhere else. Taiwan has gotten much better than they used to be and I am not hesitant to purchase tools or other goods from there. I have no input to offer about goods from any other countries not mentioned. I have had some lousy stuff from India and Mexico too. I have not purchased any goods or tools from SA, Africa, Russia, or the Mideast, other than clothes or food items.

And, I am concerned about prices and value and paying a much higher price because the country of origin info was kept hidden, regardless of how or why. Lets suppose that USA Company A has a tool out sourced to Taiwan and sells it for $100. USA Company B sells the same tool, made in the same Taiwan tool co, but with a different color handle and less prestigious brand name for $10. Both companies paid the same amount to have the tool made for them. B is the better value, and B is the company I would buy out sourced tools from because B is not taking advantage of me. If a labor rate to produce an item is exceedingly low, then I also expect to pay less for that item. I just cannot see paying the same high price as I do for items that are produced with a much higher labor rate. And, when these high priced cheaply made items fail, they are a bad value.

I recall that one of the major incentives to out source goods to countries with lower labor rates was to be able to give the consumer a much better price for the same item.
