After my son was handed a fist full of receipts that show, among many other things, the Head Gaskets were done 20K miles ago, combined with the fact that this was still the Daily Driver for the person who was expecting the new car any day. AND he was able to buy it for what the Trade in at the dealer was ($1500 US). It's in the driveway.
Good or bad.. he has it. It may have been 'regularly serviced' but I do not think the car has ever seen soap and wax. My son was washing it as I pulled in the driveway(yesterday). After dinner I couldn't resist, I slipped out the door with a can of wax to do one small spot, the paint came to life. It's always nice to bring something back to life for no money. It's part of the bonding of man and machine. This dark green oxidized car should buff up real nice. I'm sure he's been on it all day.
I stumbled onto the very same Forester Forum after being very disapointed on a SUBARUOUTBACK.ORG site. NO detail, no pictures, no intense mechanics on that site. I can find out what Air Freshener smells best but I can't get a blow by blow of a Timing Belt change.
We are spoiled with 30+ years of Volvo 200 wisdom I guess.
