Shocks

The image is of my last shock replacement which was on a 740 but the problem is the same. The rolled sleeve is rusted to the bolt.

As Herb mentioned the idea is to get at the seam in the sleeve. If you have a die grinder it is easy enough to cut the shock as shown and then use a knife to cut the rubber away to get at the sleeve.

If you don't have a die grinder you can use a propane torch to burn away the rubber that surrounds the sleeve. If you go this route of course there are all sorts of safety concerns that must be addressed concerning using an open flame on combustible material near a fuel source. I would suggest a helper in charge of a good CO2 extinguisher.

Once the sleeve is exposed and you find the seam simply use a sharp cold chisel on the seam to spring open the sleeve. Once you break the rush bond between the bolt and the sleeve you should be able to drive out the bolt. Leaving the nut flush with the end of the bolt as long as you can will go a long way in being able to reuse the bolt after you remove all the rust.
