240 wants to start, but backfires, then shuts down 200 1986

OK,
I've checked the cam and crank pulleys and both have their indexing tab(and pin) in tact and all timing marks line up. While checking the rotor, I noted a carbon trail on my cheap after market cap that flows around to three of the four conductive points on the inside of the cap.(probably my mis-fire!). Now that I've found the potential misfire problem, I start to turn the car over, but neither of my fuel pumps are working!
