240 wants to start, but backfires, then shuts down 200 1986

ok 2 things backfiring is related to timing or valves belt can skip and the crank pulley inner sleave can slip which tells you the timing marks can be off, you need to check that first and I just had a 91 740 that the pin that lines up the cam gear it sheared throwing the timing off....seriously sounds like you have a timing problem
