Application is for a 200 2.3liter nonturbo 1993.

I have had two sets of Bougicord go bad on me within 3 years of each other. During a recent "what's wrong with the engine now" investigation, I found that 3 of the 4 spark plug wires had no continuity and no resistance. So using a long probe I slid it down inside the spark plug boot and made contact with the center of the wire. Good continuity and resistance in all three cases. So I dug around in my box of used spares and found a couple of those with the same problem but enough good ones to make a good set and all is better now.

Soooooo, let's assume that the wires were in good order when I received them and installed them. So what am I doing that is breaking/disconnecting the conductor inside the boot where it makes contact with the spark plug female connector itself? Whenever I take the boot off, I always grab the finger hold molded into the boot. Should I be also hooking the boot at the base with a tool and pulling it out from there too?

I guess, and this is just a guess, if the boot sticks to the spark plug a bit or the electrical connection is too firm, and I pull from the finger hold, it is pulling the conductor away from the female connection because the boot stretches a bit.

THoughts anyone. I can't imagine that they come from the factory that way.
