Overheating bulb failure sensor 200

After years of dragging small home built trailers with my Volvos, I finally went out and purchased a nice aluminum utility trailer which has multiple side marker lights as well as tail lights. After picking up my new trailer tonight (after dark), I got no more than a mile from the dealer and began to smell something electrical. After a quick "feel" around under the dash, it was apparent that the bulb failure sensor was overheating. I could hold my hand against it but if it was smelling hot, I'm sure the inards were VERY hot.

Has anyone experienced this before? If so, what did you do? Are there alternative sensors?

I suppose I could wire up a bypass but not would not be my first choice. Any suggestions?

Tony
