RJ,
I think you are referring to 4.56:1 not 4.52:1.
Pretty sure all 220s came from the factory with the 4.56:1, at least in the US. Rear could have easily been changed sometime during the past 40 years though.
As stated, it is best to know the gear ratio he has now and then go from there.
