Leaky M41 out of car, what to do? 120-130 1967

All,

I've been doing a little restoration on Stella, my'67 220. I've pulled the engine and transmission so I could remove the cross member to clean and paint it. I split the engine and tranny and spent two messy afternoons cleaning the accumulated engine oil, gear oil, dirt, and gravel from the crossmember and tranny. I'll be replacing the front and rear main seals on the engine, as well as most of the other gaskets, but I'm not sure how far to delve into the tranny. I'm pretty sure the tranny is leaking, but everything was so dirty that it's hard to know for sure. I don't want to cross my fingers and put everything back together only to have to drop the tranny when I find it's leaking later.

So, what should I do while I've got the tranny out to make sure that it doesn't leak? I'm happy replacing gaskets and seals, but I've never taken apart a transmission and don't really want to start now. What typically leaks and what's easily replaceable?

Thanks!
