We are talking about the 122 (220) wagon, right?
I have two of them, both 1966, and neither one has any kind of lever or control for
the back seat bottom cushion, you just lift it up and flip it forward against the back
of the front seats. Then you twist the metal half-ring handle in the middle of the seat back
near the top and it swings out of the fancy chrome brackets on the pillar and latches into sockets
inside the seat bottom.
From his description I don't understand the problem - did he flip the seat bottom up or not?
