I think I should change my username to Murphy.

The car is home from college. I bought 3 switches from Swedish Engineering--the three prong one being that which they sell the most of (and the most expensive). I found the switch on the bottom passenger side of the condensor and found that the electrical connector fits my new 3-prong switch (which is a Volvo part but with a different number than DEWFPO cited--mine is 30767231--the parts guy warned me Volvo had changed numbers).

Anyway, when I started to unscrew the switch it started spewing steam, gas, freon or something clear, wet, and a little greasy. I stopped.

Any ideas?
