If I understand you correctly, it seems the high pressure switch is failing.
Located behind the grill on the lower left of the condensor. Not sure which one is acting up on you. But I'll bet it is one of those.

I believe, though I have never done it, they just screw off, there is a valve like a tire air stem to keep the a/c coolant from coming out.
