Torque wrench recommendation ..

I am about to take the head off the wife's 940t, as I am pretty sure it is in need of a gasket. Not blown yet, but leaking pressure into the system.

Looking to buy a good torque wrench, and have some questions.
3/8 or 1/2" version? The 3/8" looks to cover the ft. pounds for the head bolts, and it would be easier to use in many other areas, but something tells me 1/2" is the way to go. Right or wrong? Can't get both now.
Split beam or micrometer. The split beam says it does not need breaking in. Did not even know that was an issue. I don't mind the breaking in part too much, but I do want a tool that would be dependable with being used ...not that often, and might stay in te case for a spell between uses.
Quality is somewhat important, but I want to be reasonable. Amazon has a variety for less than 100.00. The split beam I found for 144.00, and I would not really want to go any higher in cost.

Recommendations? Prior to this I used loaners from Auto Zone, and they can be pretty bad to really bad. Time to invest!

Thanks.
