Yes, those 1.9 VW TDI's are in very high demand, hence the high prices for a used motor. Those cars and engines have a fanatic cult-like following, especially here in California where they had to stop selling them for a few years, due to emissions requirements.

Additionally, the VW TDI's can be easily converted to run on biodiesel, which is super cool!
