544 badging and other small differences 444-544


The dual carb H4 B16 544's were called "sport"s in most markets though the badging tended to move around a bit, and was sometimes absent. It seems to depend on the market, or maybe what Sven and Lars had in the parts bin that day!


See the Brooklands 'Volvo PV444 & PV544 1945-1965' book for a photo of a period example of a 544 B16 sport, badged as such, on the hood (6/61 road test).

AFIK if your "Sport" is in script then it is early, I can't recall ever seeing the red lettered plate type sport badge on anything but B18 ('62 and later) cars, usually mounted with the B18 badge on the trunk.

I think the seat belts were options before around '62 or so also IIRC.
