Mounting front Bilsteins on my 122 120-130 1965

I was going to quickly mount my new Bilsteins tonight. I didn`t succeed. Figured it would be pretty easy, but the Bilsteins are longer than I expected. Not until I gave up and refitted the old Gabriel with it`s decrepit rubber mounts did I discover that yes, the stiff Bilstein can be compressed if you lean on it.

Any tips on compressing the Bilstein once it is inside the spring? I don`t know if I can get enough oomph with just my hand while trying to jockey the lower mounting plate into position. Maybe a small jack? Dang, I thought this was gonna be easy. What am I doing wrong? Yep, it`s the right shock according to IPD.

Thanks everyone!
