"I've tried the lid attaching point (the three bolts on the lid) and they didn't do anything while loose. I tried the hinge screws...nothing there either (a little up and down)"

They should be adjustable. I think your factory paint has everything locked in place and that once you loosen bolts enough, you'll find that things move around.
