OK, so I replaced my radial control arm bushings, which was actually easy, last night.
I needed my wannabe-dremel to clean out the old rubber, which was very necessary and very hard to remove.
I started on this problem last fall and replaced the shocks and upper strut bearings, bumpers, ball joints, etc. The rotors and hubs (stupid one piece hubs!), which I needed to replace, the tie rods, and finally last night, the radial arm bushings. Most of the items, maybe barring the struts (the most expensive parts because I paid for labor), needed to be replaced anyway and now I have a new suspension. The only parts not replaced are the pressed in bushings on the back of the radial control arms.
Today, I drove into a parking lot on the way to work and the car did not give its customary clunk. A clunk I've had basically since I've had the car.
Now when I go over bumps, I feel the bump more than I hear it. Bad road vibrates the car, it doesn't rattle it.
All I can say is that the job is way easier than its made out to be, that these bushings should indeed be the first things you replace, and that a dremel type tool is necessary. FCP groton sells a kit with the bushings and new bolts for $24.
I did happen to try to "fix" my off alignment and throw it WAY off, but I planned on getting it aligned anyway. I'll probably try to un "fix" it tonight, but I really didn't mind driving with the wheel canted today.
