I have an 89 740 turbo. It was blowing smoke and not running well so I decided to replace the engine. I went to pull-a-part and pulled an engine to rebuild while I still drove mine. The plate in the back of my engine compartment said that my engine is a B230FT. All the turbos on the volvos at pull-a-part were gone. So, I looked for the same type of engine. I found one and pulled it. Only difference was mine has a manual trans and the pull-a-part motor was and auto. while going through the engine there were some differences the mains were different sizes. Got replacements from IPD. I took the turbo off today to rebuild it and noticed the oil return line. The pull-a-part oil pan does not have the hole in the side for the return line. My questions are as follows;
1. Are the pistons in the turbo motor different?
2. Can I run the turbo on the non-turbo motor if it is in fact a non-turbo motor?
3. What is the compression ratio of the B230 engine.
Thanks for the help
