I, too, had that queasy feeling when I read in Haynes that the B230 is interference. Not as bad as you did, though. I had already changed several T-belts before I got a Haynes.
The Volvo "Green" books were all I had, so now I have a gang of them. Most used is the Wiring Diagrams.
When you gather stuff for the T-belt change, get a set of seals and an eztra camshaft seal. I practiced on one so well that it got torn up, and having a spare meant no mid-job trip for another. They are not expensive.
That is, of course, assuming that you are going to be changing seals, too.
Since the T-belt change requires the removal of most other belts, consider renewing them, too. If they are still good, you have a known good set of spares.
I got a counterhold tool for tightening the crank bolt. Many folks here use the rope trick, which works fine and costs way less. I wound up doing a hurried job, and therefore had to do it over 2 times. Counterhold tool was then a blessing.
You will get a lot out of doing your own work. 240s are great for it, and very forgiving.
Good Luck,
Bob
