Why Alternator Failure

"Do y'all think that the A/C oil sprayed all over the alternator could have caused this failure or is it just my rotten luck and bad timing?"

Either is possible. But a third alternative is that your 'trusted mechanic' that says grinding, crunching, and spewing oil is normal break-in had something to do with this failure. Do you trust him enough to install another compressor and an alternator? How's your water pump?
