Check Engine Light S90-V90

Well it is a 97 960 and the check engine light and transmission warning light came on at the same time. It was -10 degrees that morning, and the car did not want to shift out of first gear. I drive it around slowly to warm it up and the tranny light went back out and the tranny functions the same as always. Could this have been caused by the fluid being so cold and stiff?
