Battery corrosion at negative terminal; time to replace battery?

No, it DOESN'T mean it's on its last legs. A little cleanup and make sure your
bolts are in good shape but tight but not too tight. You can get felt rings,
red and green at your parts store that helps this some. Also if you are
charging your battery too hard (much over 14 volts) it may be worse.
Some guys like to put grease or dielectric grease on the terminals.
But the corrosion says much less about the condition of your battery than it
does about the condition of the cable terminals which corrode to make the
corrosion product (also the pinch bolt). That is a result, NOT a cause.
