Soldering is the best way to go, no doubt about it, but I had a problem like that many decades ago, and not knowing any better, I cleaned the leaky spot down to bright brass and gooped on a fillet of two-part epoxy (Borden's, if I recall), and it held till I sold the car 15 years later. Just an anecdote, not a recommendation.
