Thank you Phil and coming from your respected position in the vintage Volvo community, I consider this to be a profound compliment. I'm blushing!!!
I did have the Amazon-S appraised in 2002 and the $13,500 was almost identical to my investment, including my labour costs. A friend's 1961 Amazon-S in the Netherlands was appraised at 16,000 Euro, when their currency was slightly less than an American dollar. I think both of these values were a bit high, but with the prospect of needing a revised appraisal, wonder what my new appraiser will come up with. A specialty vintage car insurer in Canada charges the annual premium based on the appraised value, so you do not want an unrealistically low or high appraisal, just in case the worse does happen.
My previous insurer did not take the appraised value into consideration when assigning a policy charge, but did accept the 2002 appraisal as its approximate value. This appraisal has expired for their purposes which has prompted me to do a little homework of my own.
Thanks again Phil and Craig for sharing your valuable insights.
